  • Speech and Language Therapists are fully qualified professionals who assess, diagnose and treat speech, language, communication and swallowing problems. Speech and Language Therapists are trained to work with both children and adults and aim to maximise each individual’s potential to communicate. A Speech and Language Therapist will work with the client, their family and other professionals to achieve the best possible care. Speech and Language Therapists work in a range of settings including, schools, homes, hospitals and clinics.

  • We can help support children from the age of around 3 years and am happy to work with young people under 18 years.

Common areas of need we treat include:

    • Neurodiversity

    • Autism Spectrum disorder

    • Learning difficulties

    • Language delay/disorder

    • Speech delay/ disorder

    • Communication problems

  • It starts by going over a case history and getting an understanding of your child’s development and what your concerns are.

Depending on the age and concerns will determine whether they are assessed formally or observed and informally assessed through either play or conversation.

At the end of the session a discussion around next steps, advice and recommendations. You will be sent written targets and advice for how to help your child/young person. If you wish to book therapy sessions to support with the targets this can be done.

  • Every child’s needs and interests are different and therapy sessions are designed bespoke to your child’s needs.

Like any kind of treatment success will depend on the dosage of therapy, so it will be important for targets to be practised in between sessions. this can be with a family member or perhaps in an educational setting. Without regular practise results can be much slower.

  • We work in family homes or in schools and nursery’s.

It is good to work in a place where the child/young person feels comfortable.

It is good that any televisions and iPads are switched off for the sessions and depending on the age of the child, a table is useful.

  • We are happy to work alongside NHS therapists and pass any information to them. You are entitled to NHS treatment and best practice is that we should work together for the best outcomes of your child.
