Who we are
Clear Talking was founded in 2011 by Julia Charlesworth
I am passionate about communication and understand how it is fundamental to who we are. It is so important that we are able to communicate not only are needs, but our thoughts and dreams. Communication is about making a connection and sharing meaningful interactions. To do this we may need to develop clear speech, understanding others, formulating sentences or access alternative means of communication. I am keen to offer the support that families need.
I had been working as a Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS for 19 years and knew that I needed a change and that there was a better way to help and support children and their families. Working independently enabled me to offer families what they truly needed.
I trained at the University of Central England where I qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Pathology and Therapeutics.
Over my career I have worked in a range of settings and developing a number of specialisms
More recently, I have worked in a large Special Needs School with children and young people up to the age of 19 with a range of needs, including Autism, Down’s Syndrome and those with Complex and multiple needs . I have also worked in a specialist primary school for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH).
I am a registered member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (MRCSLT), the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC Reg.) and the Association of Speech & Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP).
I am a mother of two boys (now both adults!) so I have a personal insight into the challenges of bringing up children and ensuring they have the confidence and skills to communicate effectively.
Outside of work, I enjoy fitness, wild swimming, reading and meeting up with friends.
Hope I can help you
Julia
